Our research program is structured in 3 main areas: 1) cardiovascular aging; 2) effects of gene-environment interaction in the vessel wall; 3) impact of gene dysregulation on cardiovascular outcomes in obese and subjects with type 2 diabetes. The impact of this program is outlined by the notion that prevalence of these conditions is alarmingly increasing worldwide.
Although advances in therapy have reduced morbidity and mortality, cardiovascular risk is far to be eradicated and mechanism-based therapeutic approaches are in high demand. Furthermore, our program also aims to understand the link between environmental factors, metabolic disease and premature cardiovascular aging. These objectives are accomplished by a translational approach focused to characterizing cardiovascular phenotypes through novel technologies, genetically-engineered animal models and clinical studies.
The candidate contributing to decipher novel molecular networks of cardiovascular disease will be instrumental to develop effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
The position focuses on the molecular and cellular processes underlying vascular and cardiac dysfunction in the context of obesity, diabetes and associated metabolic disease. A major part of the project will be to identify detrimental epigenetic signatures eliciting oxidative and inflammatory changes.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Biomedicine (or an equivalent scientific degree), be highly motivated, independent and senior enough to organise the work of biological or medical doctoral students and integrate themselves into a team. A background in molecular biology with a track-record in ChIP assay, gene profiling of chromatin modifying enzymes and/or in ex-vivo animal studies (e.g. organ chamber experiments) with Felasa Licence for handling small animals (mice/rats) is required. Previous experience in basic and translational studies on cardiovascular research is an advantage. The candidate will work in an international and highly motivated surrounding. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written is mandatory. The position is initially limited to 1-2 year(s) but prolongation after evaluation is possible.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
