Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

At the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM) research focuses on studies of the human immune system. The vision is to be a world leading translational research centre within immunology.

Your mission

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious immunologist at the post-doctoral level to work in the team of Andrea Ponzetta at CIM. The research interest of our team is on human innate-like T cell biology, with a particular focus on solid tumors and hematological malignancies. In our lab we are performing both basic and translational studies, aimed at capturing fundamental aspects of lymphocyte development and activation, and at understanding their role during cancer progression and therapy. The majority of the work will be performed in synergy with clinical scientists at the Karolinska University Hospital. Access to unique patient material is key to the success of our projects. The main focus of the current position will be on double negative T ɑβ (DNTɑβ) cells, a novel subset of unconventional T cells.

The successful candidate will dissect innate-like T cell distribution and development in patients affected by myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The aim is to evaluate DNTɑβ potential as a new immunotherapeutic tool in hematological diseases. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the research group of Ass. Prof. Niklas Björkström, a leading scientist in the field of innate lymphocytes biology.

The postdoctoral fellow will perform a wide range of cutting-edge techniques, including from advanced multicolour flow cytometry, cell sorting, single cell transcriptomics and imaging by mass cytometry. In vitro cell culture and functional assays, as well as extensive analysis of high-dimensional datasets will also be part of the study.

Your profile

- The candidate shall have a strong background in immunology and hold a doctorate (PhD) or equivalent degree. A documented experience in tumor immunology is considered a plus.
- Competence in advanced multicolour flow cytometry and cell sorting, as well as the analysis of the generated data sets, is required. Previous experience with transcriptomics, imaging and bioinformatic analysis is valuable but not considered as a requirement.
- Clear and concise communication and written skills in English are mandatory as the successful candidate will be in close contact with clinical collaborators at the Karolinska University Hospital. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to plan, execute, and analyse experiments in an independent manner and contribute scientifically to CIM and the Ponzetta team.
- The candidate should be self-motivated and curious to solve fundamental biological questions. Emphasis will be placed on the capacity to interact effectively and work productively in a team.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Flemingsberg

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
