Do you want to contribute to top quality medical and engineering research?

AIMES - Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences is a newly established interdisciplinary research center co-affiliated between Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Research at AIMES is characterized by intimate interactions between pre-clinical and clinical scientists and researchers with natural sciences and engineering backgrounds. Biomedical research in infection and neuroscience is addressed by the development of cutting-edge approaches based on Organic Bioelectronics, Organ-on-Chip technology, and Tissue Microbiology, which combines expertise in electroactive polymers, chemistry, microfluidics, neurobiology, microbiology, physiology, pathology and intravital imaging. Other areas of research include renewable biomaterials, sensor technologies and anti-fouling surfaces. AIMES has an explicit aim to translate scientific findings to societal use via strong interactions with external stakeholders.

AIMES is located in Biomedicum, KI Campus Solna. AIMES is hosted at KI by the Department of Neuroscience, world-leaders in research on the function of the nervous system in health and disease. AIMES host at KTH is the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology, the largest academic institution on native and synthetic polymers in Sweden.

Your mission

The employment includes both research, education and outreach in the field of Bioelectronics. This position is multidisciplinary, aiming to span across research fields. The candidate will be expected to conduct research at the interface of biology, electronics and materials science to initiate new lines of research, pursue application-driven research and establishing new collaborative research projects both within and beyond AIMES. Subject areas such as biosensors, electrochemistry, wearable bioelectronics, polymer chemistry including stimuli-responsive and conductive polymers, switchable bioelectronics, synthetic biorecognitions, surface chemistry, electron microscopy, bacterial sensing and infection biology.

The candidate will be engaged in teaching activities at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level, including the supervision of students. The duties also include course responsibility and the development of new curriculum of courses at the interface between fundamental and application-driven research.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 5 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
