Karolinska Institutet is one of the leading medical universities in Europe. Through research and education, Karolinska Institutet contributes to improving human health. Each year, the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

LCBKI is one node in CBCS (Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden), a national infrastructure for chemical biology (www.CBCS.se) at Science for Life Laboratory (scilifelab.se). CBCS operates in a highly collaborative fashion in projects with users, offering a platform for the development of novel chemical tools (bioactive small-molecules) for all fields of life sciences (molecular-, cell-, plant-, structural biology and microbiology, pharmacology; natural product and environmental research etc.). LCBKI offers collaborative service and guidance within assay development, small-molecule screening and hit to chemical probe optimization.

We are seeking a skilled biologist who will help CBCS in its mission of developing and optimizing high-quality small molecule tool compounds for academic researchers. The activities will include consulting and advising academic research groups, designing and testing various assay formats, as well as developing and performing high-throughput and high-content screens. You will be responsible for managing high-throughput projects in close collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds and delivering high-quality data. At CBCS, you will work closely with medicinal chemists to enable iterative rounds of compound testing and tool compound optimization. A strong background in biomedical research and experience in drug discovery and large scale data handling from small molecule screening campaigns, as well as a solid experience in cell culture techniques, including cell line establishment, primary cells, stem cells, and iPSs culture are required. Also, expertise in molecular biology and various phenotypic and target-based assays is highly valued as well as knowledge in cell imaging, electrophysiology, FACS or protein biochemistry. In addition to participating in research projects, some graduate-level teaching will be required. The position is placed at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics under the Research Division Chemical Biology.

Eligible applicants will have a relevant doctoral degree with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. A broad expertise in diverse areas of life science and experience in pharmaceutical industry or academic chemical biology screening centers is highly meriting. You will need to be passionate about working in an environment that promotes high-level research in multifarious fields. The successful candidate must have very good interpersonal and cooperation skills, be flexible and be capable of working in a structured and efficient way.  Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are essential.

When evaluating the candidates previous experience of cell based assay development and screening is especially meritorious.
