The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.
The Asghar research group focuses on understanding the effect of infectious diseases on cellular aging and its underlaying cellular mechanisms. The group is now seeking a research assistant who will perform the cellular aging analysis in the lab. This work involves cells sorting by FACS from PBMCs, isolation of DNA and RNA and subsequent cellular aging analysis.
The group is based at the new research laboratories at BioClinicum on the Karolinska University Hospital site in Solna. The experimental environment is located in close proximity to the clinic.

Duties
The research assistant will perform cells culture and cell sorting by FACS, isolation of DNA and RNA and subsequent cellular aging analysis in a previously collected samples. In addition, the research assistant will take part and help in bioinformatic analysis.

Entry requirements
The position is a temporary position longer than 6 months as a research assistant. The applicant should have knowledge and practical experience of cell culture and cell sorting, nucleic acid isolation, molecular methods of biological aging (telomere length, CDKN2A, telomerase, mitochondria function, inflammation and oxidative stress analysis) and basic understanding of bioinformatic analysis. A previous work on infection and aging biology will be prioritized.
The group is seeking a highly motivated and versatile research assistant. The candidate is expected to be organized and able to work independently.
