Duties
One of our ongoing, long-term projects is the understanding of the beta-cell signaling machinery in vivo. It aims to gain in depth understanding of beta-cell function in vivo and possible changes in the signaling cascade under diabetic conditions. Most of the work is carried out using in vivo microscopy, which is complimented with animal physiology experiments and immunohistochemistry. The project strives to generate mechanistic knowledge on beta-cell function and survival and to develop innovative therapeutic approaches against diabetes. The successful applicant will join and enhance ongoing efforts in beta-cell research focusing on the physiology and pathophysiology in primary rodent and human beta-cells in vivo.
