Division
The Division of Clinical Geriatric conducts research focusing on cognitive impairment, dementia, and other aging related disorders, and education, among other medical graduates. The research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with leading institutions and clinics worldwide. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Some focus areas include lifestyle factors, prevention and treatment studies, imaging methods, and registry studies. The activities are multidisciplinary and include medical research and research in the specialty engines psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and nursing. We have a close cooperation with the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. The applicant will be conducting the research in the Division of Clinical Geriatrics, which is located within the Geriatrics Laboratories in the Neo building at KI Campus Huddinge. The postdoctoral studies will be performed under the supervision of Assistant Professor Joana Pereira.

Duties
A major task for the applicant will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities at the division of clinical geriatrics. The applicant will work with different imaging modalities such as structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and its applications to Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. In particular, the person is expected to take an active role in applying advanced imaging methods and help developing new functionalities for some of our brain imaging softwares. There are also possibilities to initiate individual research projects, based on the person´s interests and in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg. The successful candidate should show a high level of independency, be able to work in a team and be willing to supervise students.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.
We seek for a person with experience in graph theory analyses of brain connectivity. For this reason, the candidate should have programming knowledge in C++ and MATLAB. Experience in analyzing imaging data from patients with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease is an advantage for this position. The applicant should also be able to show a publication record in the field of brain connectivity analyses and graph theory.The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four- year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. The amount is tax-free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
