Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för biovetenskaper och näringslära, Farnebo (MFA)

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Division
The position is placed in the research group of Marianne Farnebo at BioNut,
https://ki.se/en/cmb/marianne-farnebos-group-0

Farnebo’s lab studies functions of the nuclear organelles Cajal bodies and mechanisms involved in DNA repair, and how defects in these processes contribute to cancer. A number of techniques required to study RNA-guided DNA repair are already up and running in our laboratory, like laser-micro irradiation, live-cell imaging, single-molecule RNA FISH and RNA tethering. The lab has an extensive scientific network within the field and access to clinical material relevant for the project

Duties
The advertised position is a full time position. Work tasks will comprise two components. The first is to work closely with the group leader to jointly develop and organize laboratory functions, including organising meetings, ordering of lab-related items, introduction of new employees and help maintain the research group.

The second component is to perform research within the group. The research project will focus on characterizing the role of RNA and RNA-binding proteins in DNA repair and to investigate whether these functions are altered in cancer cells, which could have implications for cancer therapy.

Qualifications
To build a strong and creative research team, we are looking for high achievers from universities around the world. We will offer an intellectually stimulating environment and are looking for the talented people who will play a part in developing our next breakthrough ideas. Are you ready to discover the unexplored?
