The lab and technologies The Jakobsson lab investigates processes of blood vessel morphogenesis and function in development and disease, with the aim to develop new therapies. The lab utilizes mouse models of human disease based on inducible genetic loss- and gain- of-function in combination with state-of-the-art confocal live imaging (multi-photon, in vivo and ex vivo). We have access to drug screening platforms, proteomics and single cell RNA sequencing. The lab has an extensive international scientific network and is integrated in a highly interactive scientific environment with close contact with the clinic.
The project
We aim to find novel ways of modulating angiogenesis and vessel function. The projects build on our previous findings on endothelial cell- signalling, behaviour and gene expression in vascular patterning and malformation, in the CNS. Here we will focus on mechanisms of arterio-venous establishment, aspects of the blood-brain-barrier/permeability as well as properties of the tumour vasculature in relation to metastases. The Department and location
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education. Presently our department consists of 12 research divisions with a total of approximately 450 employees. The postdoc will work in Dr. Lars Jakobsson’s group at the Division of Vascular Biology, located a vibrant environment in a brand new research center within the campus in central Stockholm. Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold (or shortly obtain) a doctor’s degree, acquired no later than two years prior application deadline, in the fields of molecular/ developmental biology, biotechnology/engineering or similar. Previous engagement in developmental biology, vascular biology or neuroscience with experience of confocal microscopy and/or image analysis, in vivo experimentation, tissue culture, cell signalling, cloning and bioinformatics would be an advantage. A strong publication record (at least one first author paper in a recognised international journal) is highly desirable. The candidate should be self-motivated and driven, with good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. A high level of English, spoken and written, is a requirement.
Type of position
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt. The position itself may be prolonged until six years after PhD.
