Pushing the boundaries of our knowledge around membrane protein complexes and Class F G protein-coupled receptors by structural biology and CryoEM-based approaches.
In the division “Receptor Biology & Signaling” headed by Prof Gunnar Schulte, G protein-coupled receptors and particularly Class F receptors are in focus. The work aims to better understand how ligands interact with Class F receptors, how conformational changes are established to activate the receptors and consequently to initiate interaction and activation of intracellular signaling components. Functional selectivity of Class F receptors towards heterotrimeric G proteins or other pathways are analyzed with the hope to exploit the novel knowledge therapeutically. The research project is aiming to understand underlying molecular and structural details of Class F receptor activation for future drug development. The successful applicant will drive structural analysis of Class F GPCRs by CryoEM from protein purification over microscopy to data analysis and model building. The highly motivated candidate, with a strong background in structural biology of membrane proteins, CryoEM and GPCR pharmacology, is expected to drive the research project, technical development and concept development from idea to publication. Documented expertise (first author publications) in CryoEM analysis of single particle membrane proteins is required. The candidate’s broad expertise in protein purification, in silico approaches (alpha fold, MD simulations), and CryoEM data analysis is expected to serve as a resource for the research team. The candidate will participate in supervision of masters and PhD students. In addition to lab work, the applicant is expected to take an active, constructive and developing part in lab management.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Solna
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
