Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for an ambitious recent PhD graduate with skills in proteomics to perform cutting-edge research in the Laboratory of Chemical and Synthetic Systems Biology. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will contribute to high-quality research on an internationally competitive level.

The research group

The Elsässer group is an international and multicultural research group that focuses on applying new synthetic and chemical biology methods to understand chromatin structure and function. We are a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team within the Division of Genome Biology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics located at the Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm. The group includes senior and junior researchers, bioinformaticians, administrators, PhD students and undergraduate trainees.

Duties

The successful candidate will join our team to identify microproteins that are involved in cancer cell proliferation and drug resistance. We are currently establishing a discovery pipeline for the identification of tumor-related microproteins through genome-wide knockout and overexpression screens in cancer cell lines. The aim is to establish a universal workflow for characterizing small protein candidates, defining their subcellular localization and interactomes using a chemical biology approach combined with state-of-the-art proteomics. We are particularly interested in factors that mediate cell-cell communication, modulating tumor environments and may be exploited as early-stage cancer biomarkers. The postdoc is expected to have a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, and presentation/publication of results to drive the project forward.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a PhD not earlier than 2021 (or receive a PhD in 2023) in molecular biology or an neighboring field. The successful candidate should have a solid background in cancer biology and/or proteomics.

The candidate must be well familiar with standard techniques including:

  • cell culture models and cell growth assays
  • molecular biology and PCR techniques
  • immunostaining, immunoprecipitation and immunoblot techniques
  • RNA-seq and imaging data analysis
  • Proteomics sample preparation and data analysis

Experience in big data analysis is a merit.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Scilifelab, Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
