The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.
Focus of the lab
The postdoctoral project will be conducted in Maria Genander’s research group and is funded by ERC. More information about the Genander lab can be found here: http://ki.se/en/cmb/maria-genanders-group
The Genander lab is interested in understanding establishment and maintenance of epithelial tissue homeostasis and how alterations in homeostasis lead to tumor formation. Specifically, we are interested in identifying and mechanistically delineate stem cell niche components required for normal stem cell properties and how these stem cell-to-niche interactions change during tumor progression.
Project description
The project is focused on identifying esophageal stem cell niche components required for esophageal homeostasis. We aim use single cell RNA-Sequencing to identify subpopulation of stromal cells in mouse and human esophagus influencing normal tissue homeostasis. Furthermore, we aim to delineate the dynamics of these subpopulations during tumor formation and progression. Functional verification of specific subpopulations will be done using transgenic mouse models.
Entry requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in Biomedicine or related area. We expect the candidate to have a strong scientific background with relevant expertise and publications. Previous experience working with mouse models is a requirement. Previous experience of stem cell/tumor biology or gene expression analysis is a strength. The applicant is expected to have expertise in basic cell and molecular methods. The working language is English, and the applicant is expected to be proficient in both spoken and written English.
