The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.
Division
The Dermatology and Dermatology Division is a division within the Department of Medicine Solna. The research profile includes mainly experimental and translational dermatological research, in inflammatory skin diseases as well as in skin cancer. The experimental research is located at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) and Bioclinicum both located in the proximity of Karolinska University Hospital Solna. The proximity of the research facilities to the hospital enables a close collaboration between clinicians and scientists which is a prerequisite for translational research. In addition to research, the division has broad educational acitvities including graduate and postgraduate courses.
Duties
The research project focuses on investigating the function and regulation of non-coding RNAs in the context of chronic skin inflammation, in particular, psoriasis. The applicant will be responsible for planning and performing in vitro and in vivo experiments. We are looking for a highly motivated person with strong competence in running projects independently but also having good abilities for team work and cooperation.
Entry requirements
The application is open for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background and proven expertise in mouse disease models and RNA research. The applicant should have a PhD degree within the area of biomedical research and have strong interest in medical and biological problems. The applicant needs to have documented previous experience with mouse disease models. Hands-on experience with disease models of inflammation, in particular skin inflammation, competence in molecular biology and immunology techniques, and in bioinformatics including analysis of global gene expression data, is an advantage. The applicant also needs to have experience in RNA research; experience with non-coding RNAs is an advantage. Experience in supervising students and working with method development are meritorious. The applicant should demonstrate ability to manage simultaneous projects and to interact well with others in the research group.
