Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Medicine/Center for Infectious Medicine(CIM)

The Center for Infectious Medicine, the Department of Medicine Huddinge
The Department of Medicine at Huddinge comprises of seven units, three research centers, and a total of around 70 independent research groups. Our ambition is to be a leading department within medical research and education. At the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM) (http://www.ki.se/cim) research focuses on studies of the human immune system. The vision is to be a world leading translational research center within immunology.

Description of the work group/equivalent and its work/focus
The research group is headed by Jenny Mjösberg, and is active at the Center for Infectious Medicine, Karolinska Institutet Huddinge. The research group is focused on studying the function of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) and their role in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Our research group studies primary lymphocytes obtained from patients with CRC. We study these lymphocytes using cutting edge techniques such as advanced flow cytometry and (single cell) RNA expression analysis. To provide mechanistic insight into lymphocyte function, we utilize and develop in vitro cell assays.

Area of responsibility/duties

  1. Experiments on human primary lymphocytes from CRC patients

  1. Techniques for cellular and molecular biology (flow cytometry (analysis and sorting), RNA expression analysis, in vitro cell assaying, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, etc.)

The successful candidate is expected to play a critical role in formulating scientific research hypotheses, testing the hypotheses using proper study design, analyzing the data, presenting and interpreting the results, and writing scientific reports and articles in English.

An overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications will be made. The postdoctoral project is planned to last 10 months.

Entry requirements
To qualify, the applicant must have a PhD in molecular cell biology, immunology, or equivalent. Merit is given to applicants who are experienced in multicolor (18 or more) flow cytometric analysis and sorting, studies of human intestinal ILC biology and in vitro cell assaying. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A personal letter explaining the interest in the position
  2. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  3. A complete list of publications
