Dept of Medicine/Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM)

Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Medicine
The research at the Center for Infectious Medicine, CIM, is focused around studies of the human immune system and infection-immunity in humans. The Center operates within the Department of Medicine, Karolinska Institutet at the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. CIM has since its inauguration in 2002 rapidly grown and gained national and international recognition. The vision is to become one of the leading translational research centers within immunity and infectious diseases in Europe.

Division
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the group of Assistant Professor Marcus Buggert at CIM as a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on a project concerning the immunobiology of T cells in tissues. The project will be focused on understanding what role tissue resident memory T cells (TRMs) play in health and HIV disease. Specifically, the candidate will determine what unique functions that are linked to efficient HIV-specific TRM responses and also assess the degree of viral reservoirs in TRMs. The research project will be in collaboration with domestic and international researchers and clinicians – therefore longer periods might be spent abroad.

Duties
The position requires experience with multiparameter flow cytometry and work with human lymphocytes. In addition, we believe that the successful candidate will have a strong background in studies of the immunobiology of human T cells. Experience of sequencing techniques (such RNA-seq), bioinformatics, virology and tissue biology will also be considered as merits. Applicants should have first author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals. The present position is based on new funding available immediately. If several highly qualified candidates are identified we may opt to hire two Postdoctoral Fellows.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
