Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för Medicinsk biokemi och biofysik, division of Genome Biology

Department
The research conducted at the Research Division of Genome Biology explores various aspects of genome metabolism, and how their perturbation can lead to disease. Research in the Bartek group focuses on various mechanistic aspects of the DNA damage response. Of particular interest is discovery of targets and markers for personalized cancer treatment and finding novel components or mechanisms of genome integrity maintenance.

As assistant professor, you are both involved in research and teaching. The focus will be on research in drug repurposing with a focus on anti-cancer drug development as well as novel mechanisms involved in various mechanistic aspects of the DNA damage response or other cell stress responses, as well as involvement of human cytomegalovirus in cell transformation. Primarily research included the identification, of potential anti-cancer substances and novel molecular targets. It is also included to follow developments in the subject areas in general. Teaching may include course responsibility, course management and teaching on various courses. The duties also include implementation of research results in teaching and activities and other dissemination of research results.

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Eligibility requirements Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position of assistant professor.

The successful candidate should also have documented skills in the use of bioinformatics tools, high content screening platforms, tissue microarrays and digital pathology. Experience from biomarker development as it relates to various cancer types, development and implementation of phenotypic high-throughput screening for cancer drug repurposing, development and implementation of discovery pipelines to identify cancer sub-type specific biomarkers and experiments with human cytomegalovirus are meritorious. Documented experience of teaching, supervision and own grants or awards are considered additional merits. The applicant should be fluent in English both in writing and oral communication.

Pedagogical and scientific expertise will be most when assessing applicants.
