Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Division/ Department
We are seeking a research assistant (with MSc degree) to work in the team of assistant professor Claudia Kutter at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institute and Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm. The group studies coding and noncoding RNAs (long noncoding, transfer and small RNAs) at the transcriptome-wide level in mammalian somatic tissues and in the germline. Duties
Assistance with experimental design, in particular for high-throughput sequencing experiments; Data QC, data management and archival storage; analysis of large datasets; support the ongoing research in the group; creation of reproducible and robust pipelines for analysis in R and Python.
Qualifications
Applicants should be proficient in English and have completed their postgraduate degree in Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics with robust computational training and some experience with experimental protocols in the wet-lab.
Skills and personal qualities
The successful applicant will have a solid background in bioinformatics, computational biology, expertise in statistical and bioinformatics software and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment. The applicant should be able to work with Python, R and Bash and should be comfortable with version control systems like GIT. Previous experience with following workflows is extremely advantageous, in particular ChIP-seq, small and total RNA-seq, transcriptome assembly, m spectrometry, metabolomics analysis and gene regulatory network analysis. Experience or knowledge of the counterpart wet-lab protocols for the aforementioned workflows is valued.
