Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious immunologist at post-doctoral level to work in the team of Assistant Professor Pia Dosenovic at MTC. The team studies B cell-mediated immunity with a focus on basic immunological questions related to vaccine development. https://ki.se/en/mtc/pia-dosenovic-project

Division

The Division of Virology and Immunology at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet comprises ten research groups working on different aspects of molecular virology, viral immunity, T- and B-cell biology, vaccine responses to complex antigens and tumor immunology. Our vision is to drive innovative studies that advance our understanding of viral diseases and cancers, and to develop treatments that will make significant contributions to global health.

Duties

The specific research projects of Pia Dosenovic’s laboratory are focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms of B cell activation and regulation, particularly under various conditions of vaccination, but also in autoimmune disease and cancer. The ultimate goal is to gain deeper insights into how we can modulate B cell responses, whether in the context of developing vaccines to various viral infections or to supress autoimmunity and cancer. To study this, the team is using sophisticated genetically modified mouse models and physiologically relevant antigens. In addition to taking the lead and advancing a specific research project(s), it is expected that the candidate contributes to common laboratory duties and participates in the supervision of research students.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their postdoctoral research in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

For the current position, candidates with a PhD in immunology and a documented experience with mouse studies, multicolour/spectral flow-cytometry and single cell sorting analysis will be prioritized. Experience in analyzing immune-related transcriptomics is considered valuable. The candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and have good communicational skills. The candidate should be used to working efficiently in a team-oriented manner as well as working independently. Personal suitability will be evaluated. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
