Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Lund lab is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to explore new functions of macrophages in the peripheral nervous system. Join our multidisciplinary and creative research team working in state-of-the-art labs at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. We offer a chance to contribute with your expertise and ideas to an exciting project with potential to make groundbreaking discoveries.

The Research Group

The major goal of the Lund lab is to map the cellular and molecular architecture of the blood-nerve barrier during health and disease. We aim to uncover novel physiological functions of the blood-nerve barrier and to understand whether manipulating the blood-nerve barrier can be a strategy to treat disorders where sensory neurons are damaged or destroyed.

The Lund lab is part of a multi-lab research collaborative consisting of approximately 20 scientists from three research groups, located at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet’s Solna campus (Biomedicum building).

Duties/Research Project

The Postdoctoral Fellow that joins the team will be investigating the molecular identity, cell-cell interactome and physiological function of blood-nerve barrier macrophages during both homeostatic conditions and during mouse models of neuropathy. We have recently identified novel subsets of macrophages at the blood-nerve barrier with unexplored physiological functions. The project is focused on the molecular and transcriptional characterization of these novel macrophage subsets, their interactions with cell types in the peripheral nervous system and their function during physiology and pathology. Another big part of the project is to develop and characterize new genetic and biological tools to target blood-nerve barrier macrophages. The project will utilize animal models, single cell RNA-seq, flow cytometry and image analysis.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Biomedicum, Campus Solna.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.

Due to the Christmas holidays, we will start reviewing applications in mid-January.
