Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Do you want to contribute to top-tier medical research? At the Department of Oncology-Pathology, our group focuses on the critical role of mechanical forces in the development of cancer and vascular diseases. Our multidisciplinary team includes pathologists, clinicians, and molecular scientists, working together in an international environment dedicated to improving human health.

Description of the subject area

Our research centers on Amotl2 (Angiomotin-like protein 2), a critical player in regulating cell behavior, specifically in processes like cell polarity, migration, and the integrity of cell junctions. As a member of the motin family, Amotl2 is integral to tissue organization and cellular architecture. It acts as a scaffold protein, regulating interactions between other proteins that maintain cellular shape and intercellular communication.
Amotl2 has emerged as a significant regulator in both cancer biology and vascular disease. One of its critical roles is in modulating the Hippo signaling pathway, which controls organ size by regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis (programmed cell death). The Hippo pathway ensures that organs grow to their correct size, and its dysregulation can lead to overgrowth of tissues, contributing to tumor formation and progression.

Your mission

As a research specialist, you will take part in cutting-edge research on Amotl2, focusing on its implications in cancer biology and vascular diseases. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and conducting experiments to explore Amotl2 signaling pathways.
  • Collaborating with a diverse team of experts.
  • Analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, and presenting your findings at scientific conferences.
  • Contributing to the development of therapeutic strategies and participating in grant writing.
  • Supervision of junior researchers

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has demonstrated a strong track record of research in cell biology, with specific expertise in the study of proteins like Amotl2 involved in cell signaling and migration. Proven experience in mouse models, multidisciplinary collaboration, a solid publication record in high-impact journals, and contributions to advancing knowledge of vascular development as well as vascular diseases such as aneurysms are highly valued. Additionally, experience as a main supervisor for PhD students would be advantageous for the role.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

A proven ability to conduct independent research with a strong focus on cell biology, particularly in the study of signaling pathways relevant to cancer and vascular diseases. Prior work in mouse models or other relevant systems, contributing to translational research efforts.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
