1-2 Postdoctoral positions are now available in Dr. Lars Jakobsson’s group within the Division of Vascular Biology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, composing an outstanding research environment. The research group is located in the lively Biomedicum research center in central Stockholm, providing an exceptional environment for research and education. The postdoctoral positions is fully funded (scholarship or employment) and available immediately, with the latest start date being September 2024. Karolinska Institutet offers free gym and health-promoting activities.
The Jakobsson lab at Karolinska Institutet delves into blood vessel morphogenesis, patterning, and function in developmental and disease contexts, aiming to pioneer new therapeutic approaches. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies like inducible genetic manipulations, lineage tracing, and state-of-the-art confocal live imaging, we work with mouse models, bridging fundamental understanding with practical applications. Our environment offers access to diverse tools such as drug screening platforms, proteomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics. Integrated into a high-performing scientific setting with close clinical ties, our lab fosters innovation and impactful discoveries. Explore some of our publications: Jin et al, Nat. Cell Biol., 2017; Wang et al, Development, 2017; Wang et al, Sci. Rep., 2018; Tual-Chalot et al, Circ. Res., 2020; Krimpenfort et al Exp. Eye Res. 2023, Guimaraes et al, Science, 2024.
Our current project focuses on unraveling cell signaling dynamics at the intersection of flow-shear and ligand-induced responses, crucial in understanding vascular malformation associated with inherited human vascular diseases. Utilizing mouse models alongside advanced technologies including single-cell RNA sequencing, we aim to decode intricate cellular mechanisms. We seek a highly motivated, creative, and scientifically curious team player with a keen eye for biological intricacies. The ideal candidate should hold, or soon obtain, a doctorate in molecular/developmental biology acquired within the last two years outside of Sweden. Prior engagement in developmental and vascular biology, along with experience in confocal microscopy, image analysis, in vivo experimentation, tissue culture, cell signaling, cloning, and bioinformatics, would be advantageous. Strong communication skills and proficiency in English, both spoken and written, are essential.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
