Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Furlan lab at the department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute, is seeking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field Neurometabolism.

Your mission

The project is funded by a European Research Council (ERC) starting grant and aims to characterize the brain-body circuits controlling body weight. It is an interdisciplinary project at the crossroads between Neuroscience and Metabolism. The postdoc will employ viral tracing, imaging of neuronal activity, opto- and chemo-genetics, amongst other cutting-edge tools, to map and functionally interrogate the brain circuits controlling the function of fat tissues. The postdoc will quantify changes in behavioral and physiological parameters and assess changes in the peripheral tissues using RNA sequencing approaches, following manipulation of the activity of selected brain neurons.

Initiative, inventiveness, motivation, and a keen interest in understanding and contributing to the fields of neuroscience and metabolism are an absolute must.

The ideal candidate:

  • - Has a solid academic background in neuroscience (background in physiology is a plus)
  • - Has familiarity with optogenetics, chemogenetics and behavioral tests
  • - Can perform intra-cranial stereotaxic surgery
  • - Have strong experience with immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging

The following skills represent a strong advantage:

  • - Experience with single-cell isolation, FACS sorting, sequencing approaches
  • - Experience with the detection of blood metabolites
  • - Experience with metabolic phenotyping
  • - Experience in single-cell imaging of neuronal activity in head-fixed or freely moving mice
  • - Knowledge of the peripheral nervous system and ganglia dissection

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
