Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Dantuma lab at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden has a long-standing interest in the role of protein degradation as therapeutic target in cancer. The goal of this project is to target the ubiquitin-proteasome system and autophagy in cancer with small molecules.

Do you want to join us on this challenging journey? We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in testing and characterization of experimental drugs.

Your mission

The mission of this project is to test the anti-cancer efficacy of novel, in-house developed compounds that inhibit intracellular protein degradation. The efficacy will be studied in cell-based and xenotransplant models. In addition, we would like to better understand the molecular mechanism by which these compounds elicit their anti-cancer activity. More information on the experimental compounds that will be studied in this project can be found in two recent publications (Giovannucci et al, 2021; Cell Death Dis. 12: 914 and Giovannucci et al, 2022; Autophagy 18:7, 1486-1502).

Entry requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled scientist with experience in drug development and testing of compounds for anti-cancer potential. Advanced skills in in vitro and in vivo testing of drugs as well as basic skills in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry are important assets for this project. Other helpful skills are experience with fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. Candidates should be competent in spoken and written English.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Stockholm

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
