The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.
The newly established Hanke research team is interested in emerging and re-emerging viruses. We combine functional analysis and structural approaches to study viruses and the immune responses against them. Our work aims to understand fundamental molecular aspects of infection and has implications for vaccine design and the rational development of antivirals
The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in our ongoing efforts to improve the understanding of the early phase of RNA virus infections, including viral entry and replication. We are developing nanobodies to control, block, monitor and manipulate the targeted protein(s), which gives us a unique perspective to examine the underlying molecular processes. This work requires a creative approach to incorporate the nanobodies into various techniques and assays, as well as develop new methods to extract more biological information and use the nanobodies for a growing list of biomedical applications. Our overall aim is to deepen our knowledge of RNA viruses, which will ultimately help us improve treatment and prevention options.
We are looking for a talented, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in infectious disease, virology, and/or protein engineering. Documented experience in one of the following techniques is required: structural biology (cryo-electron microscopy or x-ray crystallography), virology (propagation, neutralization, manipulation) or machine learning and antibody/nanobody sequence analysis. The projects are pursued in an interdisciplinary environment that involves collaboration with several groups; therefore, good collaborative skills are necessary. Fluency in English is mandatory.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
