At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer are carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working in the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 Ph.D. students.
The position is within professor Johan Hartmans research group. The successful candidate will have the access to our unique patient materials and datasets. Similarly, the candidate will have a chance to perform top-level breast cancer translational studies together with our collaborators at both KI and Science for Life Laboratory.
The applicant needs to have strong competence in running projects independently but also have good abilities for teamwork and cooperation within a dynamic group of scientists and clinicians with broad expertise. The applicant will also supervise Ph.D. students. The successful candidate has good knowledge of breast cancer disease and has expertise in relevant IVD assays, drug screening, and precision oncology.
The individual will develop breast cancer disease culture models, identify potential biomarkers and develop a stratification system for patients into distinct subgroups based on comparative analysis of multiple omics and phenotypic data. The work will include the design of projects, experiment performance, data analysis, results interpretation, and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications, and meetings and conferences. The individual is expected to oversee the organization of research projects conducted by other Ph.D. students. The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators at both KI, Karolinska University Hospital, and SciLifeLab and contribute to the networks' efficient functioning.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, Ph.D., or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
