We are looking for a skilled and driven statistician or epidemiologist who would like to be a part of a dynamic research environment at the intersection of academia, health care, and the private sector. He or she wishes to pursue epidemiologic research, has a strong interest in addressing clinical questions through state-of-the-art epidemiological and biostatistical methods

Your mission

The duties involve developing and producing standardized annual reports of recruitment, patient characteristics, and treatment outcomes, but the applicant would also be expected to be an integral part of our research group by providing additional statistical support to our ongoing research projects and surveillance programs. In addition to the preparation and execution of Statistical Analysis Plans for specific projects, with results intended as internal safety reports or publications in peer-reviewed journals, this will involve giving seminars or contributing to teaching on methodological and statistical topics.

Depending on the applicants experience and interests, there will be many opportunities for the applicant to engage in scientific publications connected to these projects, or possible to combine this work with an independent line of research in applied biostatics.

The position will be funded by independent academic research grants for prognosis and comparative safety and effectiveness studies of recent immunomodulatory drugs for inflammatory bowel diseases, and via agreements with pharmaceutical industry concerning drug monitoring of current treatments for inflammatory bowel diseases.

Your profile

The successful applicant should have an MSc or higher degree in biostatistics, statistics or epidemiology with sufficient knowledge in biostatistics and statistical programming to perform advanced data management and statistical analysis using SAS, Stata, R, or equivalent software based on large-scale register data. We expect the applicant to have several years of work experience with applied biostatistics in epidemiology or similar areas. Experience of working with large databases, such as the Nordic national health or quality of care registers, is essential.

The position will require interactions with researchers, clinicians, and representatives from pharmaceutical industry; experience from these domains are considered a merit. Excellent grasp of spoken and written scientific English is essential, and strong presentation skills are preferable. Swedish skills are meriting, but not essential. In the assessment of the candidates, we place particular emphasis on interpersonal skills.

For applicants wishing to combine this position with an independent line of research, a strong track record of the ability to initiate, conduct, and publish successful research projects as lead author in peer reviewed journals is another requirement

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of Professor Johan Askling (https://ki.se/en/meds/kep-chronic-inflammatory-diseases) at the Division of Clinical Epidemiology.

More specifically, the position is located in the the inflammatory bowel disease epidemiology research team, led by Associate Professor Ola Olén, MD. The team is devoted to epidemiological research questions that have a strong potential to make a difference in clinical practice and currently consists a group of clinical and other researchers, who seek to help inform decisions in clinical practice through high-quality epidemiological research on the basis of nationwide health care registers and clinical databases.
