Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Your mission

The successful applicant will contribute to the development of our recently established 3D human adipocyte models (Shen et al., Adv Sci, In press). Specifically, the candidate is expected to work on the refinement of differentiation conditions of primary human preadipocytes, evaluate molecular mechanisms underlying human adipogenesis and increase the cellular complexity of the developed model by incorporating other cell types or tissue-tissue communication. The research conducted in this project is part of and will be funded by the ERC Synergy Project SPHERES.

Placement

The research will be conducted in the laboratory of Associate Professor Volker Lauschke (Personalized Medicine and Drug Development;). In the group, we use 3D cell culture systems of primary human cells, microfluidics and integrative bioinformatics approaches to develop better model systems for prediction of drug toxicity and to identify novel therapeutic strategies for complex metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. In addition, we are interested in understanding the molecular basis of hepatic plasticity in liver injury and regeneration. Furthermore, we study the genetic basis of drug response and adverse drug reactions on a population-scale. The research of the group is financed by The Swedish Research Council, the Malin and Lennart Philipson Foundation, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, the Strategic Research Program in Diabetes.

Your profile

The candidate must have at demonstrated experience and a proven track record in organotypic culture methods of primary human cells, ideally adipocytes. Furthermore, we require strong proficiency in spoken and written English and an interest in working in international and interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge and understanding of immunobiology, physiology and systems biology will be an asset. We value a person with good communications skills able to work quite independently. Ambition to apply for external postdoctoral fellowships is explicitly encouraged.

Furthermore, the applicant must be eligible for employment as postdoctoral researcher. Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
