The newly started Fuzik laboratory, closely affiliated to the Meletis laboratory at the Department of Neuroscience, has an open position for a postdoctoral fellow to reveal the identity and investigate the synaptic function of neuron subtypes in animal models of anxiety. The project will address the classification of periaqueductal grey neurons and their long-range inputs and plasticity with special focus on sex-differences.
The research will be supported by investigation of neuronal function during behavior through a number of advanced circuit approaches to manipulate molecularly defined neurons. The project will involve the use of genetically modified mice for in vivo optogenetics and behavior testing, in vitro optogenetics together with electrophysiological recordings, Patch-seq electrophysiology and single-cell RNA sequencing.
Successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating and collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
We expect applicants to have a strong determination to contribute to a functional understanding of circuits, with extensive experience and interest in, Patch-Seq electrophysiology, in vitro optogenetics, confocal imaging and RNA-sequencing.
Extensive knowledge of in vitro electrophysiology, statistics, and basic programming is expected.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Location: Solna
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
