Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The applicant will work in a research group that principally works with research into health effects – both positive and negative – of blood donations and transfusions. Current studies include investigations into transfusion transmitted diseases, health of blood donors, and how different donor factors affect outcomes of transfused patients. Research is mostly based on large-scale, clinical databases, using state-of-the art statistical methods. The principal working language of the research group is Swedish.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The student will work in a creative and dynamic research environment with a combined clinical and methodological focus. The student will be one participant in a larger project applying big data methods to understand transfusion effects in critically ill patients. The student is expected to have a high level of professional maturity and to have an open attitude towards learning and applying new skills. Because all participants in the research group are part time clinicians, the student is expected to be able to work independently. Tasks may include all aspects of the planning of research projects, collecting data, organizing and documenting data, analysing data, and preparing scientific publications. The work is expected to be very intellectually demanding and will require both creativity, analytical ability and scientific curiosity. In addition, because of the clinical nature of the data, the student must have at least basic understanding of clinical medicine.
