Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

Division

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship in the research group of Arne Lindqvist, at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. The Lindqvist group works as part of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, situated in the new Biomedicum building with access to core facilities and plenty of stimulating interactions with research groups from five different departments.

Duties

We are interested in how cell cycle and DNA damage dependent signaling interact to regulate whether resumed proliferation or senescence occurs in human cells. We now look for a motivated individual to run a project that aims to follow single cells expressing various reporters using time-lapse microscopy and quantitative immunofluorescence. Duties include various cell biological techniques, as creating and validating constructs and cell lines, and performing functional cell culture experiments. A strong focus will be on microscopy and image analysis. In a collaboration within the group, the data will be fitted to a mathematical model. For a background, please see:

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The Head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Qualifications

  • To qualify, the applicant must have a PhD.
  • Expertise in cell culture and basic cell biological methods is required.
  • Expertise in a field related to cell cycle, DNA damage, or cell fate is an advantage.
  • Expertise in microscopy and image analysis is an advantage.
  • Expertise in programming is an advantage.
  • An ability to perform independently is vital, however the project is heavily integrated into other projects in the lab and thus an ability to contribute as part of a team is required.
  • Excellent English oral and writing skills are required.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A brief letter (not more than one A4 page) explaining your interest in the position and background experience that makes you suitable for the position. Please indicate a potential starting date
  • A complete list of publications
  • Names and contacts of two referees

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
