Unit
The Center for Hematology and Regenerative medicine, HERM, is a research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge with a focus on translational hematology and immunology. HERM is located in the NEO building and consists of a mix of clinical and preclinical research groups, each with a focus on clinically relevant questions in hematology, stem cell biology and immunology, including basic immunology, immunodeficiency and transfusion immunology.
Recruiting research group
Professor Petter Höglund leads a translational immunology group working on natural killer (NK) cells, immune responses to platelet transfusions and blood transfusion practices in hematology patients. (https://ki.se/en/medh/petter-hoglund-group) The group is now looking for a motivated, well-organized postdoctoral scientist across the group’s various projects. There will be an initial focus on developing experimental models for platelet transfusions studying the immune responses to transfused platelets in both patient material and experimental models. It is expected that the candidate will also participate in the NK cell-related projects that are ongoing and contribute both with own ideas and new projects and collaborative efforts in ongoing projects.
Responsibilities
The main responsibility will be to develop and conduct independent research projects at the postdoctoral level within the line of ongoing research in the group. The candidate should also provide expertise and constructive collaborative efforts into ongoing projects. Laboratory work in the group includes all aspects of an immunology lab, such as molecular biology, cell culture and flow cytometry. Advanced FACS experience, including cell sorting, is required. Basic knowledge of bioinformatic tools an advantage as well as imaging experience. The proposed project requires work in both mouse models and in humans.
Qualifications and entry requirements
Applicants must have adequate university education in biomedicine or cell biology. The candidate must have a PhD or corresponding training such as an MD with research experience. The successful candidate is very well-organized, responsible, collaborative and likes to work in a dynamic environment with diverse tasks. The applicant should have practical experience in standard molecular biology, cell biology and flow cytometry techniques. For the latter, advanced knowledge in multicolor FACS analysis and cell sorting is an absolute requirement. Good collaborate skills, independence, communication skills and computer skills are required. Knowledge using bioinformatics tools and imaging are considered advantageous. Knowledge of Karolinska Institutet's databases (ELN) and documented documentation skills will be asked for. Good knowledge in written and spoken English is required.
