Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 80 PhD students, 77 postdoctoral researchers and 32 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Division
The research group is headed by Assoc Prof Gerald McInerney and our work focusses on cell-intrinsic responses to alphavirus infections, including Semliki Forest and chikungunya viruses.

Duties
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral fellow to perform research on the functional and structural aspects of the alphavirus replication machinery. The candidate will be responsible for developing and applying novel nanobody-based techniques to the study of the assembly and regulation of viral RNA replication complexes and host factor interactions. The successful candidate will take a strong lead in the experimental design, contribute to the analysis of his/her own data and collaborate with other team members.

The candidate is expected to communicate the scientific results by publishing scientific papers and presenting at international scientific meetings. The candidate will be expected to develop an independent research line and attract external funding.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in virology, with specific focus on cell biology of infection and at least two years postdoctoral experience. Experience with RNA virology, cell biology, nanobody technology, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, protein biochemistry and structural biology are required.
