Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The Division of Clinical Geriatrics conducts research and education focusing on cognitive impairment, dementia, and other aging related disorders. The research is multi-faceted and is in close collaboration with leading institutions and clinics worldwide. The research is clinically oriented with an emphasis on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Some focus areas include lifestyle factors, prevention and treatment studies, imaging methods, and registry studies.

We have a close cooperation with the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. The student will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor Joana Pereira (main supervisor) and Assoc. Prof. Eric Westman (co-supervisor).

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work on a multimodal neuroimaging project in Alzheimer’s disease. The project will involve combining different imaging modalities from structural and functional MRI as well as PET imaging to assess changes in the brain connectome. These changes will be analyzed using tools from graph theory in patients at different disease stages. The person is expected to take an active role in applying imaging methods, develop ideas and new functionalities for some of our brain imaging softwares.
