Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Masucci

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
Maria G. Masucci research group
Our research aims to elucidate how viral products mimic or hijack key cellular functions in order to promote virus persistence and spread, and to understand how these viral strategies may lead to malignant transformation. We particularly focus on signaling pathways that are regulated by post-translational modification by ubiquitin, SUMO and NEDD8. The ultimate goal of our research is to identify new regulatory interactions that may be targeted to control virus infection and its potentially life-threatening consequences.

The project will investigate the molecular events that underlie the association between latent and productive viral infection and the regulation of autophagy.

Duties

  • To be responsible for the development of the research project together with the PI and other team members
  • To conduct research studies independently
  • To generate and keep an updated record of all the experimental results
  • To be accountable for personal professional conduct within the project
  • To prepare a draft of scientific publications
  • To ensure that work in the research group is conducted safely, legally and in accord with the highest standards of data protection
  • To give due regard to the University Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and other relevant policies.

Entry requirements
Candidates eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship will have obtained a PhD in virology, cell biology, tumor biology or related subjects. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

Candidates with documented previous experience of work within the field of protein chemistry and signal transduction and proficiency in molecular virology techniques will be given priority

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
