Do you want to contribute to improving mental health?

The Centre for Psychiatry Research (CPF), a division within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, conducts high quality research into psychiatric disorders. The 22 independent research groups cover a number of fields, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, personality disorders, abuse, and suicide. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high quality research at international top level.

Your mission

The successful candidate is expected to be responsible for ongoing epidemiological projects at the Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive, and Related Disorders research group lead by Professor Mataix-Cols at CPF. The projects are related to exploring biological, genetic, and social risk factors as well as clinical, societal, and health care outcomes for a variety of psychiatric disorders with main focus on obsessive-compulsive and related disorders. The projects consist of observational studies with multigenerational and family-based designs and the analysis of complex longitudinal data from large population-based registers, as well as of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of existing evidence.

The candidate is also expected to develop an independent line of research with primary focus on different pharmacoepidemiological aspects of psychiatric disorders, including, inter alia, the creation and implementation of strategies for healthcare providers to improve treatment practices. One important area of responsibility will be to disseminate research output throughout the development, coordination, provision, and quality assurance of various educational activities, including education for healthcare practitioners.

Primary duties will be to design and conduct observational studies and systematic reviews related to the ongoing projects, including data management and statistical analyses, as well as to create and lead pharmacoepidemiological and interventional studies within an independent line of research. Duties also include establishing and managing contacts with healthcare providers and other collaborators, development work on education for students and clinicians, supervision of students at different levels, producing scientific publications and recommendations for healthcare providers and other relevant stakeholders, as well as applying for research grants to secure financial support.

Your profile

A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor.

For a successful candidate it is required to have: (1) an established scientific profile in the field of epidemiology with a focus on psychiatric epidemiology; (2) proven record of conducting population-based register studies (preferably with the use of Swedish registers), including studies with family-based design and studies with pharmacological data; (3) a clear and viable strategy for starting and pursuing independent line of research focusing on pharmacoepidemiology of psychiatric disorders; (4) documented ability of carrying out advanced statistical data analysis with focus on longitudinal modelling of cohort data and analysis of family-based data; (5) practical experience of conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses; (6) proficiency in the use of analytic software such as SAS or STATA, documented by relevant training and user-experience; (7) excellent written and communication skills in English; (8) pedagogical proficiency and proven record of experience in development of education.

The candidate should be highly organized and self-motivated with ability to determine and meet the objectives, be able to develop and manage collaborative work effectively, and be comfortable having parallel activities. The applicant must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary environment. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.
