At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from many different nations are currently working at the department. We have around 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles and we have around 120 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.
Description of work place
The work will be conducted with a team of enthusiastic members of the Cancer proteomics Mass spectrometry (MS) research group led by Janne Lehtiö at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). SciLifeLab is a collaboration effort between four universities in Stockholm and Uppsala: Stockholm University, Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Uppsala University. The center combines state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences. From 2013 SciLifeLab has an assignment from the government to work as a national infrastructure. SciLifeLab vision is to be a competitive center for high-throughput biosciences for research within health and environment.
Description of research group
The Lehtiö group is working to improve cancer treatment by using human proteome analysis. Our group with a friendly and innovative atmosphere includes members from various disciplines working as a team to study proteins in the context of biological networks, understand how genome defects in cancer impact the proteome and discover cancer biomarkers to improve tomorrows cancer treatments.
Scientists, bioinformaticians and engineers in our group work closely together with clinicians to develop and use a variety of technologies to generate novel knowledge of cancer biology, develop new treatments and implement tools to support clinical-decision making of the disease.
We need a new team member
We seek an all-round front-end developer to contribute in developing tumor board decision support systems, web-based visualization software and in-house interfaces. Our new team member will have a key role in making the generated data available for other researchers and in translating these results to the clinical practice.
Knowledge of back-end systems is an advantage for this job as the position will also require collaboration with back-end engineers. Domain knowledge of bioinformatics is not required, but the interest to learn about this field as well as about the biology of cancer is a plus. We offer a very stimulating and diverse working atmosphere in a team of very motivated co-workers, therefore the candidate is expected to engage and interact with researchers and staff in the group, contributing with their expertise.
