The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The Division and research group
The Division of Neurogeriatrics consists of 16 research groups and approximately 90 employees whereof approximately 20 are PhD students. Our research is focused on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer´s disease (AD), and is strongly oriented towards translating findings from basic research into clinical practice.
The position is placed in the group of Jaan-Olle Andressoo and it is located in campus Flemingsberg. The laboratory’s goal is to develop novel therapeutic approaches by creating tools, which allow increasing endogenous gene expression. Recently we have made great progress in this direction by showing that it is possible to use knock-in CRE-FLEX and CRISPR-Cas9 systems to conditionally upregulate endogenous gene expression limited to naturally expressing cells. We now look for research assistant who will help analyzing knock-in mouse models and help to develop gene Knock Up tools further in cell lines. The position is for one year, full time.
Duties
We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to form an essential part of our research team led by Jaan Olle Andressoo. The responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be varied and include:
-Performing diverse biochemistry and molecular biology techniques e.g. extracting RNA, DNA or protein from cells and mouse tissues, PCR, qRT-PCR, perform immunohistochemical staining.
-Genotyping mice.
-Assisting with inventory and organization of chemicals and lab materials.
-Preparing and aliquoting reagents
Entry requirements / Qualifications
A successful candidate has experience in most of the following techniques: cell culturing, molecular cloning, DNA, RNA and protein isolation, PCR, QPCR+data analysis, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, HE staining, microscopy imaging, standard mouse behavioral analysis, mouse perfusion, stereotactic injection into anesthetized mouse brain. An EU accepted license to work with animals such as FELASA C is an advantage.
Prior experience or good knowledge in neurodegenerative dieses is an advantage, as is an academic degree (BSc or MSc) in the field.
The applicant should also have:
- high personal drive and motivation
- strong collaborative attitude
- good organizing skills
Working language is English. The applicant should have good social skills, personal suitability is therefore of great importance.
