The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

Division
The Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, invites applications for a Postdoctoral researcher position. The two-year (50%) position is available from 1st January 2019 in the research group of Professor Harri Alenius at the Unit of Systems Toxicology.

Duties
The Postdoctoral researcher will be working in several projects focusing on impact of host-microbiome interaction in immune homeostasis and its dysregulation leading to allergy in human cohort samples. Main duty of the Postdoctoral researcher will be bioinformatic analysis of 16S and metagenomic data and its integration with environmental exposure and clinical data and with other OMICs layers.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

Qualifications
The candidate should have an excellent track record and experience with microbiology – especially bioinformatics analysis of 16S sequencing. Preference will be given to applicants with experience on working with the gut/skin microbiome associated with allergies. Advanced use of R or equivalent programming language is required and candidates should also have several publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of Microbiology, molecular microbial ecology or Immunology. Readiness of an applicant to learn the analysis of metagenomes is considered as an advantage.

The candidate should be highly motivated, independent, and have strong communication skills. Excellent ability to give scientific presentations, write scientific articles and communicate in English is required. The candidate is expected to cooperate in national and international networks. Therefore, a background of working in networks of researchers and international research experience give extra value.
