Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division
The division of the Aging Research Center (ARC) within NVS is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing psychology, sociology, and various branches of medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics). Major research foci in the psychology section at ARC concern (a) sources of individual differences in cognitive functioning among older adults; (b) the neural underpinnings of age-related differences in cognition, as assessed using structural and functional MRI; (c) PET research on the role of dopamine functions in cognitive aging; and (d) intervention research examining cognitive and brain plasticity in old age. A part time position (20%) as senior researcher in the psychology section is available at ARC, starting in January 2019.

Duties
A major task for incumbent will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities at ARC, conceptually as well as methodologically. In addition, there are possibilities to initiate individual research projects, based on the incumbent´s interests.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, A strong track record in terms of publications and grants, as well as research experience regarding different brain imaging modalities is required. In particular, documented skills in integrating MRI data (e.g., functional connectivity) and PET data (i.e., dopamine binding) as they relate to cognition is desirable.

Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.
