Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

Division
The Centre for Translational Microbiome Research (CTMR) started in January 2016 as a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. The Center builds on a deep understanding of translational microbiome research and has established a broad technical, biological, clinical and epidemiological platform for studying complex microbiological communities in well-defined human materials. The Center aims at creating a scientific translational environment with a broad interdisciplinary approach to the interface between clinical epidemiology and the microbiological, immunological and genetic aspects of the human microbiome and its association to health and disease. This epidemiological project will be supervised by Associate Professor Nele Brusselaers, head of the epidemiology team at CTMR. This team has expertise in meta-analyses, registry-based research, clinical epidemiology and pharmaco-epidemiology, with a focus on women’s health, gastrointestinal diseases and cancer.

Duties
We are now looking for a part-time postdoc to work on a project within our Women’s health focus area a CTMR, on the association between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and adverse events during pregnancy, and long-term effects in the offspring. This project will be based on the Swedish Health Registries and currently ongoing clinical cohorts, so will include study design and planning, data management, and statistical processing and interpretation of the results. This project does not involve any laboratory work.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

We seek an enthusiastic and talented person with suitable clinical and epidemiological education, with documented experience and interest in polycystic ovary syndrome, metabolic disorders, pregnancy-related disorders and epidemiology. We stress scientific expertise when assessing applicants (incl. publications), and hands-on experience conducting relevant statistical analyses. Documented experience with statistical software to manage large data/sets is a strong merit (e.g. Stata, R, Sas), as well as knowledge and experience with the Swedish (or Nordic) health registries. Personal qualifications are curiosity, engagement and independence. Excellent knowledge in English, in speech and written, and basic understanding of Swedish is a prerequisite since the position requires communication with the Swedish Health authorities and working with data collected in Swedish. We use English in all activities at CTMR.
