The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics carries out epidemiologic research of many kinds ranging from traditional epidemiology to molecular epidemiology and has a number of strong research areas including psychiatric/ cancer/ infectious/ reproductive/ cardiovascular epidemiology and biostatistics. Unique Swedish resources and prerequisites – such as several large prospective studies, ongoing nationwide case-control studies, large nationwide research registries, record linkage capabilities and access to clinical data as well as biologic material – are effectively explored at the department. Duties
The position as Assistant Professor is time limited for 4 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer. We are now inviting applicants for 1-2 positions as Assistant Professor in medical epidemiology and/or biostatistics. An Assistant professor will essentially carry out research and develop their independence as a researcher. These positions are directed towards research.
Eligibility requirements
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence and is able to demonstrate skills and experience in the fields of epidemiology and/or biostatistics. Applicants must have a high level of proficiency in both written and spoken English. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position of Assistant Professor. Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist. Special grounds refer to illness or parental leave. Reason, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation.
Bases of assessment
The bases for assessment will be scientific expertise and overall scientific quality in the field of epidemiology/biostatistics. The applicant must have the capability, as the principal applicant, to obtain external financing and have the potential to secure further funding within their area of research. Pedagogical experience and leadership qualities are meritorious. Those eligible should show a strong potential to achieve the requirements for promotion to senior lecturer within the designated time.

Promotion of Assistant Professor to Senior Lecturer
An Assistant Professor can apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer. An application is submitted to the Recruitment Committee. In order to be promoted to Senior Lecturer after an assessment by the Recruitment Committee, the applicant must meet the criteria below. The Assistant Professor can choose between two different promotion tracks; promotion to Senior Lecturer with focus on Research or promotion to Senior Lecturer with focus on Education and research.
