The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.
A position for a laboratory technician is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jaakko Patrakka at Karolinska Institute (KI) / AstraZeneca (AZ) Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre (ICMC), Stockholm, Sweden. The focus of the project is to explore molecular mechanisms behind renal glomerular diseases, with special emphasis on diabetic nephropathy. The ultimate goal is, in collaboration with AstraZeneca, to identify novel therapeutical targets and to develop new pharmaceutical compounds to treat diabetic nephropathy.
We are seeking enthusiastic applicants who have previous experience in the field of experimental nephrology and long experience in molecular laboratory. The chosen technician will be closely integrated to a large research team. It is important that the applicant is easy to collaborate with and result-oriented. Applicants should master following methods (in detail):
-cell cultures
-preparation of histological tissue sections (frozen, paraffin, electron microscopy)
-general molecular biological methods, such as PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, SDS-page gels
-handling of mice
