Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Rydén and Mejhert lab aims to understand how alterations in human white adipocyte function are related to cardiometabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and coronary sclerosis. Our group consists of 15-20 members (senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD/master students, and technical staff) and has all the necessary infrastructure to conduct translational research including a fully equipped preclinical laboratory at Biomedicum and a clinical research unit at the Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge.

Your mission

Our unit is establishing a pipeline for tagging proteins in adipocyte progenitors (mesenchymal stem cells) to determine their localization, interaction partners, and function in adipocytes. As a research assistant in our team, you will contribute directly to this effort by leading the development and testing of different gene-editing strategies, including the use of integrase-deficient viral vectors, electroporation with various repair templates, and evaluation of different HDR blockers. You will learn advanced aspects of both molecular and cell biology, and you will collaborate closely with experts within the group and with external collaborators.

Your profile

To qualify, you should hold at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a biomedical discipline or equivalent and have prior experience working in an experimental laboratory. Practical experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, CRISPR/Cas-mediated gene editing, flow cytometry, or microscopy) is highly meritorious. Familiarity with genome engineering approaches, viral transduction, or electroporation is an advantage. You should be structured, well organized, and able to manage several projects in parallel. Proficiency in written and spoken English and strong collaborative skills are required. We place great emphasis on personal suitability, independence, and motivation.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities.
