Postdoctoral Researcher in Chronic Inflammatory Disease Research

At the Clinical Epidemiology Division at the Department of Medicine Solna, we conduct high quality epidemiologic studies with the overarching goal of advancing patient care and deepening our understanding of health and disease. Your mission

You will be responsible for doing data management, planning studies, writing study protocols, programming and applying statistical analysis methods to epidemiological data. You will work independently to develop research questions and conduct epidemiological studies from start to finish under the supervision of the principal investigator. For most projects, you will work in a team with other researchers, clinicians, students and/or patient partners. You will be expected to effectively communicate your work and results in both written texts and oral presentations.

The postdoc project will investigate the relationship between treatments and long-term outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus. You will use administrative health data from primary and specialist care to investigate patients’ disease course trajectories. There will be new data sources to explore and develop, and you will be expected to take the initiative to examine their suitability for lupus research and come up with your own research questions.

Your profile

We are seeking someone who is self-driven and passionate about improving the evidence base for chronic inflammatory diseases and someone who loves to learn new things and share their knowledge. The ideal candidate will have experience in using administrative health data such as the Swedish national registers, and have completed coursework and studies using epidemiological methods. Skills in programming (SAS, R or Stata) to conduct data management and analysis are required. You should be a detail-oriented person who has a high standard for your work. It is important that you are able to work on multiple projects at the same time with good time management and organizational skills. The successful applicant should enjoy working with and analyzing large and complex databases. He or she should have a proven track record of finishing projects and publishing their work. Knowledge about treatments, outcomes and comorbidities in systemic lupus erythematosus is required, and having a medical degree is a merit.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of ten divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the Clinical Epidemiology Division in the Askling Research Group and Elizabeth Arkema’s team. The Arkema Team is comprised of students and postdocs who work together on research related to the causes and consequences of sarcoidosis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
