We are looking for 1-2 motivated Postdocs for research projects in RNA biophysics/structural biology under biological relevant conditions

Possibly more than 50% of the human genome codes for non-coding RNA. These RNAs are ubiquitous among all life forms and the mechanisms how non-coding RNAs regulate these cellular functions are largely unknown.

Our research group is interested in understanding how RNAs adopt their structures to select specific functions in a pool of RNAs. We employ different biochemical and biophysical techniques (e.g. EMSA, NMR, SHAPE), to investigate the molecular mechanism of RNA function (Nature 2012, 2015 & 2020).

Description of research group and project:

The project

(A) The Postdoc will work on microRNA mRNA targeting, using SHAPE, advanced NMR and other biophysical and biochemical methods.

(B) The Postdoc will work on a project to study ribosomal dynamics and its impact on the biological function. The Postdoc will establish and develop biophysical and biochemistry methods for this task and possibly work on drug development.

In general, the Postdoc will work on RNAs addressing biological/medical questions studied in the lab. You will work in a team together with other lab members and regularly present your research work in lab-meetings, seminars and at international conferences.

Your profile

To qualify, the applicant should have a background in biochemistry or biophysics of RNA with an interest in multi-disciplinary research. Of advantage are knowledge in SHAPE, cryo-EM, RNA biochemistry, NMR and computational aspects of biology, but not required.

We are looking for a highly motivated, well organized, driven and enthusiastic person interested in our area of research, who is ready to explore new avenues in science. The candidate should have a high degree of independence but should also show a collaborative approach to research and be able to work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement (written and oral).

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Biomedicum, Solna

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae (CV, max. 3 pages), including date of the thesis defense, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work, contact information of at least 2 references
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)
  • Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labor unions or student organizations, parental leave or similar circumstances,
  • A short project proposal for work in our lab (max. ½ page).

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.

Welcome to apply at the latest 16th of January 2022.
