Postdoc in Enteric Nervous System (ENS) Biology

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position (scholarship) in Enteric Neurobiology in Ulrika Marklund’s group at the division of Molecular Neurobiology. The lab’s research focus is on the enteric nervous system (ENS) in the gastrointestinal tract - an essential, yet under-investigated, part of the nervous system. We are especially interested in gaining a deep understanding of the neuronal diversity within the ENS from a functional and developmental perspective.

Your mission

The Marklund lab addresses fundamental questions in ENS neurobiology with the aim to 1) define the connectivity and function of enteric neuron classes, and 2) uncover the regulatory mechanisms and molecular programs that control neuronal cell fate decisions and differentiation during development. The lab uses a wide range of transcriptomic, cellular and genetic methodologies. A postdoctoral position is now open in projects devoted to exploring enteric neuron networks and their physiological functions. More information can be found at: https://ki.se/en/mbb/ulrika-marklund-group

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results.

Your profile

The applicant must hold (or expected to hold within 6 months) a PhD degree in the field of developmental biology, transcriptomics or molecular neurobiology, and preferably with skills in more than one of the following areas: RNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, transgenic animal models, gut physiology assays, histochemical methodologies and transcriptional assays. The applicant needs to have a high degree of independence and motivation but should have no problems in collaborating. Duties to be taken on as soon as possible.

Fluency in English is a requirement.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

What do we offer?

Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden.

The Division of Molecular Neurobiology is part of the Department for Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics and performs research in neurobiology, developmental biology, cancer and stem cell biology. The Department resides in a new research building for Biomedical Research, Biomedicum, providing modern technological platforms and an open environment for interactions across departments and disciplines.

Location: Solna Campus

Type of Scholarship: Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application

An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

A complete resumé, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work A complete list of publications A summary of current work (no more than one page)

Welcome to apply at the latest December, 4, 2020.

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
