Aging Research Center

Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) at Karolinska Institutet conducts the world-leading scientific research in care sciences and epidemiology of aging, health, and dementia. Aging Research Center (ARC) provides a multidisciplinary academic environment, incorporated as a division of NVS. ARC conducts multidisciplinary research involving psychology, social gerontology, and various branches of biomedicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, genetics, and geriatrics). Senior researchers, postdocs, doctoral students, and guest researchers are all represented at ARC. Unique research resources ‒ such as large-scale prospective studies, nationwide research registries, record linkage capabilities, and access to clinical and biological data ‒ are available at the center. ARC is now opening a one year position with possible extension.

Your mission

Together with epidemiologists, sociologists, and clinical researchers, the candidate will work with a research project investigating the relationship of life-course cardiovascular risk factors and related disorders with mental health outcomes in older adults as well as potential neuropathological mechanisms. The project will largely be based on the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K) population study and the embedded SNAC-K MRI study, which includes people aged 60+ years who have been followed up at regular intervals since 2001. The protocol includes extensive assessment of social, medical, biological, and genetic factors as well as a comprehensive neuropsychiatric battery. The postdoc will be involved in all parts of the research process, including generation of research hypothesis, formation of specific research questions, study design, statistical analysis, writing of scientific reports, and dissemination of research findings. Successful candidate will additionally contribute to other ongoing projects within the research group. The candidate will also be involved in preparation of funding applications. Finally, teaching at the first- and second-cycle levels at Karolinska Institutet will also be among the work duties.
