The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. You will work in a research group with expertise in molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, where you will have great opportunies to grow as researcher. 

The Division
The Division of Neurogeriatrics perform research on different aspects of Alzheimer’s disease from molecules to patients. Our research group (PI: Maria Ankarcrona) investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial dysfunction and neuronal cell death in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The group works in an inspiring and interactive research environment in BioClinicum, KI-Campus Solna and has on-going collaborative projects with national and international research groups.

Your mission
The postdoctoral position will include involvement in projects regarding mitochondrial functions and endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondria interplay in neurodegenerative disorders. The postdoc will be involved in all parts of the projects ranging from planning and performing experimental work to project and data management, and dissemination of results.

Your profile
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. You must have a doctoral degree in Medical Sciences or Health Sciences. You are expected to have a background in neurobiology and neurodegeneration with good knowledge of the nervous system. You should also have experience with biochemical and cell biological methods. Previous knowledge in fixed- and live cell imaging is essential. Image analysis or bioinformatics skills will be considered as a distinct advantage. Experience with neuronal cultures or human iPS-derived neuronal cells will be also valued.

You must be able to work independently, take own initiatives, have good collaborative skills, be socially competent and be fluent in written and spoken English.
