Karolinska Institutet, Institutet för miljömedicin

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

The postdoctoral researcher will be situated at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, the unit of intervention- and implementation research for worker health. The group is a multidisciplinary that consists of researchers in the field of occupational health, occupational health psychology, occupational health economics, health promotion, mental health and musculoskeletal health. The unit combines research on effective methods for the identification of risk factors for ill health with research on the development and evaluation of interventions for the promotion of health at the workplace.

The iSkol-project

Given today’s high prevalence of mental ill-health and related sick-leave among teachers an urgent need exists for a more sustainable working life for this professional group. One way of doing this is by improving schools’ social and organizational risk management. Recent reports have shown that many schools in Sweden lack a structured approach to the management of social and organizational risks. In 2015, we launched the first Swedish occupational health guideline to support a structured prevention of these risks at the workplace. The long-term goal of the iSkol-project is to support the implementation of this guideline within schools in order to improve the social and organizational risk management. By doing so we want to reduce risk factors for mental ill-health and related sick days. We are currently conducting a cluster-randomized controlled trial that compares the effectiveness of two implementation strategies for implementing the guideline in schools.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher, who can join the iSkol-project team. We are a team of junior and senior researchers who with great enthusiasm have been conducting the iSkol-project for the last 2,5 years. We have now come to the final year of the project and are keen to have a post-doctoral researcher onboard who can support us in quantitative data-analyses and manuscript-written in English. Duties will include data-cleaning, data-management, advanced statistical analysis and writing both scientific and popular-scientific articles. The position is for 1 year.

Entry requirements
To be eligible for employment as postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must hold a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or have equivalent scientific expertise. We are looking for an independent researcher who has demonstrated experience with intervention- or implementation research studies evaluating intervention effectiveness. Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis-methods and statistical programs, such as SPSS is necessary. The applicant must also have experience in writing and publishing scientific articles. It is an advantage if the applicant has knowledge on organizational interventions. The applicant must be enthusiastic, precise, self-going, and responsible. Personal fit is important.
