Karolinska Institutet,

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Division
The Division of Pathology presently hosts 6 research groups and conducts research on pathogenetic mechanisms in various types of inflammatory and degenerative conditions and in malignancies including cancer and hematological malignancies such as lymphoma. Much of research within the field of pathology is closely coupled to the clinical diagnostic pathology and biobanked samples from human tissue are often used in research.

Duties
We are offering one postdoctoral scholarship in the field of Lymphoma research, working in the group of Professor Birgitta Sander and Associate Professor Birger Christensson. The projects within the group is on the molecular patogenesis of lymphoma with a special focus on mantle cell lymphoma.

The main focus of post-doctoral position will be to conduct research projects aiming to unravel the cellular and molecular dysregulation in the lymphoma cells of patients with mantle cell lymphoma and other hematological malignancies. The project will have a focus on transcriptional regulator SOX11 in mantle cell lymphoma and on the importance of the G-protein coupled cannabinoid receptors in lymphoma (Lord et al. Haematologica 2014, Wang et al. PLoS One 2010, Wasik et al. Oncoscience 2014, Sander et al. Int. J Cancer 2008).

Responsibilities:
The applicant is expected to be a talented and highly motivated researcher and he or she is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, and presentation/publication of results. The candidate must be able to work within a team environment. The applicant must be fluent in English since this is the language used in the research environment. The applicant should be experienced in cell culture and cellular and molecular techniques such as flow cytometry, western blot and PCR. Experience with isolation of human leukocytes from blood and culture of primary lymphocytes is desirable.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
